Be A Volunteer

WHAT?

You can VOLUNTEER to be an Adventure  Buddy for our clients for our upcoming sessions every Summer, Fall and Winter.

SUMMER programs are delivered mostly out of Brae Island park in Fort Langley and sometimes out of Elgin Park in South Surrey. This year we will be delivering programs out of Albert Dyck lake in Abbotsford.

FALL AND WINTER PROGRAMS are delivered at Grandview Heights Aquatic Center in Surrey.

HOW?

All you need to do is contact us by email, then you will complete an application and other supplemental forms in addition to completing a criminal record search.  When all the paper work is completed you will be invited to join our Volunteer training Session. We appreciate your promptness in submitting Criminal Record Checks as they take a few weeks to get completed and we are required to have all paper work completed for each volunteer.

WHEN?

SUMMER/FALL/WINTER VOLUNTEER TRAINING SESSION: This session is typically hosted one or two weeks prior to the start of every program season (summer, fall and winter) See below dates.

More details and a list of  what to bring will be shared with you closer to the dates of training. Please note that we are not able to offer a second training session. We can only offer a volunteer shadowing orientation as a substitute to our training session, not ideal but an option if you must miss the training sessions.

WHAT IS THE TRAINING ABOUT ? You will have the opportunity to complete some basic disability/chronic condition training as well as the basics of facilitating outdoor adventures, specifically paddling. You will work one-on-one with a client as their adventure buddy, each session, so we want to equip you to guide clients to succeed.

For the Fall and Winter the training also includes Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Aquatic games/ Adventure Education activities to help clients achieve their goals our different programs.

WHY?

Because you can really change the world, One Client, One Life, One water adventure at a time!

Join us! We would love to have you be a part of the Power For All Family this season!

Volunteer Role Description PFA

Every year we hold two separate training sessions you must attend:
1. A virtual training session
2. An in-person water training session

Both sessions must be attended by all individuals interested in volunteering. We also have one self-paced training through MacHealth and can be completed in your own time but it must be done before the zoom session. This self-paced on-line training will help you understand the basics of working with children/youth who live with developmental coordination disorder.

The online and in-person trainings are usually done every season:
Summer: end of June or beginning of July date and location TBA
Winter Pool Programs: November first or second week
Fall: first or second week of September

Once the steps above have been completed, let us know and we will be in touch with information on how to obtain a criminal record check for working with those who are vulnerable. There is also a paper work package to complete so we can comply with industry standards.

We look forward to venturing in nature with you!
