OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SERVICES ALL YEAR LONG

Occupational Therapy Assessments

At Power for All we also offer holistic care by addressing the needs, goals and concerns within the scope of occupational therapy but also have built partnerships with a variety of other health care and community providers. As a client you may be referred to other professionals like physiotherapy, speech therapy, naturopath, massage therapist, counselling, chiropractor, osteopath, etc. We extend referrals when applicable to our clients to enhance their journey to health and wellness.
Our occupational therapists can assist you with assessments and consultation. A report or letters can be produced for sharing with any members of the health care team that you deem necessary. Our assessment results are meant to assist you as you continue in the journey of advocating for the success of your child or your own health and wellness. Our OTs can also join parents/guardians at IEP (Individualized Education Plan) meetings or any other meetings where the interventions recommended need to be implemented into a child, youth or client’s day. Contact us to arrange a time to connect and review the variety of options available!

SUMMER PROGRAMS

Paddle Boards and Kayaks are adapted as needed to compensate for any function the paddler has lost due to disability. While an adaptation may be made to the paddle grip or the seating support, the sport of paddling is not changed. Our Adaptive paddling programs are committed to providing full integration for anyone with a disability through the intentional use of equipment, teaching styles, and paddling locations. This ensures that we meet each paddler’s needs. Bursaries area available for all ages to have access to our programs with health care or community practitioner referrals.

Certified staff and volunteers will instruct clients on how to use the adaptive paddling equipment in a fully inclusive paddling program. Clients with physical, cognitive, psycho-social and/or chronic conditions are welcomed to our programs. Individuals 4 to 18 years old can book sessions with Power For All. The program goals are related to the basics of physical literacy, sensory and motor development. Balance, coordination, physical strength and endurance, socialization and integration goals, executive function skills, are just a few of the goals that our clients work towards when engaged in our programs.

We have adaptive paddling adventures set out for one week as a daycamp opportunity for ages 4 to grade 12 and there are camps for adults as well. To learn more about some of the different adaptations that can be made to compensate for a disability or condition, you can go on our website at:

FALL PROGRAMS

Sensory Enhanced Movement for Self-Regulation and Trauma Program!

Is your child/youth struggling with self-regulation, sensory processing and/or motor difficulties, the effects of trauma, mental health at home and school?

This program takes place over 14 weeks and it implements sensory enhanced and trauma aware practices to help children and youth to learn about self- regulation and trauma healing. The program includes a variety of sensory enhanced activities, reflex integration and vagus nerve activation assessment and exercises with our occupational therapist. Children and youth experience a variety of experiential labs and discussions where they learn the basics of self-regulation, interoception and stress management. We believe that without interoception being taught, it is impossible to develop self-regulation skills. Parents and guardians are educated/coached in the implementation of interoception language, reflex integration exercises related to self-regulation.

This program is designed for children/youth with anxiety, mental health challenges and/or conditions, recovering from trauma, chronic pain, inflammation and chronic stress. We invite all participants to sign up only for the entirety of the program in order to be able to progress through the curriculum.  We know that clients are able to fully embody the content learned when participating in the full program. We typically meet during a weekday afternoon after school or during the day if a child/youth is homeschooled. We mostly meet for individual/private sessions in the clinic and there are some group experiential activities and outings. Assessments are done throughout the program so that occupational therapists can develop a self-regulation profile that is shared with the child/youth and parents or guardians as a result of participating in this program.

This program can be covered through Autism Funding, At Home Program, Respite, extended health and other types of funding for occupational therapy. The program is around $2,800 and registration will take place on August 1, 2024. We can only take 10 children/youth in one cohort. The cohort takes place from September to December every year.
